It’s not very inspiring to hear the phrase “Let’s be friends” from thee person they are going out with.  Does it mean that your ex wants to break up and stop seeing you?  It gives the impression that the relationship has already ended, if indeed it ever started!  It may, however mean, pure and simply just, “Let’s be friends”.

Maybe the person saying “Let’s be friends”, cannot decide how they feel about you. It may therefore be better to separate for a time to give them the time to clear their thoughts about you and see if, in the words of the proverb, “absence makes the heat grow fonder” and they want to come together with you again…

A period of time with your absence may be what your ex should have to let them reflect on why you had decided to date each other.  Give them the time and when they are decided, be there, be friendly and see where it takes you

Often the person saying “Let’s be friends,” is frightened to show how strong their feelings are for you.  For certain people, falling in love with someone is a frightening experience, so they repulse their lover to avoid having a serious affair and risking being hurt afterwards.  So take their friendship.   When your ex sees that you are still there, this might give them the courage they need to get more seriously involved with you.
